Advancing Access to Medicines
for Healthier Lives
Our research initiatives focus on enhancing the accessibility and affordability of essential medicines in Africa and South Asia. By integrating clinical insights with a deep understanding of healthcare systems, we aim to develop solutions that empower patients and support their wellness goals. Join us in transforming healthcare access and improving health outcomes through our collaborative efforts and expertise.
Revolutionary medicine and advanced healthcare solutions
This project builds upon previous research focused on tracing pharmaceuticals across South Asia, supported by international funding aimed at poverty reduction. The earlier work explored the full pharmaceutical ecosystem in countries such as India and Nepal, with a strong emphasis on public health and population-based approaches to medicine distribution. It highlighted the importance of understanding clinical evidence, as well as how national and global regulations influence drug production, pricing, and accessibility.
The current research extends this approach to additional regions, including Uganda, South Africa, and India. It examines how pharmaceutical regulations interact with both formal healthcare systems and informal care networks. The objective is to support evidence-based health policies by addressing key challenges such as accessibility, affordability, acceptability, and the appropriate use of essential medicines.
Stakeholders at both national and international levels are involved throughout the research process to ensure that the outcomes contribute effectively to policy development and practical implementation. The findings are expected to have broader relevance for other developing regions and global health initiatives.
AMASA Project Outputs: Advancing Access to Medicines in Low-Resource Settings
This initiative focuses on improving access to essential medicines across Africa and South Asia by addressing regulatory constraints, unequal distribution systems, and policy-related barriers. Its research outputs examine critical issues such as the widespread use of irrational drug combinations, delays in medicine registration processes, and evolving legislative requirements in different regions.
The work also highlights the role of civil society organizations and healthcare professionals in strengthening access to medicines, while drawing attention to geographical disparities in pharmacy availability and healthcare infrastructure. Through evidence-based analysis, this initiative supports ongoing efforts to enhance medicine accessibility and improve the efficiency of health systems in resource-limited settings.
